18 years of As White | Find out where the AMADA comedy cast is…

God bless the Wayans brothers. Many may not know this, but Keenen Ivory Wayans, the older brother and role model for the whole clan, was one of the main people responsible for the inclusion and portrayal of black actors in comedy itself. in the 1990s, creating, casting, writing, presenting and starring in the comedy show In Living Color – which ran for five seasons until 1994.

Keenen began his directing career with the blaxploitation film satire I’m Gonna Get You Sucker (1988), and later directed brothers Damon, Shawn, and Marlon in a few films. Among the most famous of his repertoire are Everybody in Panic and its first sequel (2000 and 2001).

If many of his films divide critics and audiences, their strong popular appeal is undeniable, like our national comedies, carrying an easily accessible humor. Thus, his latest films have a low-key humor, however, much appreciated by those who grew up watching them.

And that’s where As White (2004) comes in, Keenen’s penultimate film to direct and star Marlon and Shawn – the last (so far) was O Pequenino (2006). The plot that everyone already knows, two disgraced FBI agents (Shawn and Marlon) are put in charge of a kidnapping case involving two white and blonde heiresses. Thus, they take the place of the girls, in a grotesque make-up, which makes fun of subverting the “blackface”, and becomes the “charm” of the production.

With reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, White Girls has a paltry 15% approval rating and has been called a “disorganized, silly, obvious comedy”. Well, no one denies that. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be funny too. Whether as a guilty pleasure, with the general public the film has a rating of 56 on IMDB. And with a budget of $37 million, it grossed $113 million worldwide. As the trio don’t heed fans’ plea and release a sequel, let’s find out where the film’s cast is headed

Have fun watching:

Marlon WayansMarcus

Did you know that Marlon Wayans was almost Robin’s first movie? And it’s still at the time of Tim Burton’s Batman movies. Slated to debut in the original film, the character was pushed back to second and then third, until Burton quit directing and Marlon was replaced by Chris O’Donnell. But the actor will later play a superhero in GI Joe – Rise of Cobra (2009), in which he plays Ripcord. Apart from that, he went his own way in parodies without the brothers, signing the screenplay and starring in films such as Paranormal Inactivity (2013), its sequel (2014) and Fifty Shades of Black (2016); as well as winning his own TV show with the series Marlon (which ran for two seasons); and collaborating with Netflix on films like Nude (2017) and Six Times Confusion (2019). His last works were more serious films, like On The Rocks (2020), the new feature film by Sofia Coppola, and Respect (2021), the biography of Aretha Franklin.

Shawn WayansKevin

Shawn was in the Scary Movie franchise as a closeted gay Ray and laughed at the situation. However, after poor reviews for Le Petit (2006), Shawn, like Keenen, put his career on hold, working little in recent years, and leaving the limelight to the more famous brothers, Marlon and Damon. He participated in the parody She Dances with My Goose (2009), a parody of dance films of the time. The feature is more of a family production, with a screenplay signed by Shawn himself and by Keenen, Marlon and the trio’s nephew Damien Dante Wayans – who makes his directing debut with the feature. Unfortunately, She Dances With My Goose is considered one of the worst movies of all time by the general public on IMDB.

Terry Crews (Latrell)

The great Terry Crews has already starred in three Expendables films, alongside Stallone and the 1980s troglodytes, but he will forever be immortalized as “Chris’ father” in the Everybody Hates Chris series. Well, if there’s one role that rivals popularity, it’s this one. Like every “cartoon,” White Girls needed someone to fall in love with the female undercover duo, and it was the brawny Latrell, who even gave in the meme of his dope dance scene” fried”. While the fourth Expendables isn’t coming, Crews has appeared in Deadpool 2 (2018), the action drama John Henry (2020) and is a regular cast member on the series Law & Disorder (Brooklyn Nine-Nine). His next works are in the cartoon reboot The Animaniacs and the animated super production League of Monsters.

Brittany Daniel (Megan)

Interestingly, Brittany Daniel has a twin sister in real life, also actress Cynthia Daniel, and with her she starred in the series Sweet Valley High (1994-1998). She reprized her role in the cult comedy Dirty Joe (2001), in the sequel Dirty Joe 2 (2015). His last works were in the Netflix series Black-ish (2019) and #BlackAF (2020).

Jennifer CarpenterLisa

The year after her involvement in comedy, Jennifer Carpenter would take on the title role in the horror The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005). She will continue in the genre with Quarantine (2008), a remake of the Spanish REC. After that, she played Debra Morgan on the hit show Dexter (2006-2013). She recently starred in the drama series The Enemy Within (2019), voiced Sonya Blade in the animated Mortal Kombat Legends (2020) and is alongside Amanda Seyfried, Britt Robertson, Paul Giamatti and Amy Irving in the drama Deep. Breathe (2021). – available on HBO Max.

Busy Philipps (Karen)

The actress gained fame for series such as Dawson’s Creek, Medical On Call and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. More recently, he was a regular cast member of Cougar Town, a series starring Courteney Cox. In 2018, he participated in the body acceptance film Sexy by Accident, with Amy Schumer. His last work was on the HBO series Camping with Jennifer Garner, Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and the series Damage Control.

Jessica CauffielTori

You might not connect the name to the person, but blonde Jessica Cauffiel was a familiar face in the early 2000s, for her appearances in movies like Legally Blonde (2001) and The Day of Terror (2001). In addition, he was present in the series The Drew Carrey Show. She was also on FX’s My Name Is Earl and will soon reprise her role as Margot in Legally Blonde 3. Cauffiel hasn’t filmed anything since 2009.

Jamie King (Heather)

Before White Girls, blonde Jamie King appeared in blockbusters such as Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor and Johnny Depp’s Profession of Risk. She was also in the comic book films Sin City (2005), The Spirit (2008), and the horror remake Valentine’s Day Macabre (2009). She recently starred herself in Eight Women and a Secret (2018) and was in the gruesome Escape Routes 2 and 3 (2018 and 2019) alongside Sylvester Stallone. King also starred in the horror series Black Summer (2019) for Netflix. His next work is the crime thriller Out of Death, opposite Bruce Willis.

John HeardWarren

The late John Heard played patriarch Warren Vandergeld in As White. Before that, the actor had played another unforgettable patriarch of cinema, Peter McCallister in Home Alone (1990) and its sequel (1992). The actor had a full resume of over 180 credits, which included films such as The Mark of the Panther (1982), Quero Ser Grande (1988), Awakening Time (1990), and The Pelican Dossier (1993). One of Heard’s last “famous” works is the farofeiro Sharknado (2013). Heard died in 2017, aged 71.

Bonus: Evangeline Lilly

I bet a lot of people didn’t know about this one. Now a Marvel star as Hope van Dyne in the Ant-Man movies, as well as having the Hobbit trilogy on her resume as well. But Lilly also saw her share of uncredited cameos early in her career, in films like Freddy x Jason (2003), for example. And here simply lived a “party guest”, an unnamed character. She also participated in this Smallville series program, until she was discovered in Lost, and the rest is history.
