5 science fiction films for those who liked “The War of Tomorrow”

Published

on

‘Tomorrow’s War’ is Amazon Prime Video’s latest original title and, with an extensive cast from Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski and JK Simmons, is already gaining subscribers worldwide.

Despite the mixed reviews, there’s no denying that the feature manages to keep us entertained with two main elements: sci-fi and big battle sequences. The story centers on a group of time travelers who arrive from the year 2051 to the present to deliver an urgent message: thirty years in the future, humanity is losing a war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is to get current soldiers and civilians to join the fight in the future.

For those who have devoured the film before and are thinking about what to watch, CinePOP has put together a list of five more military sci-fi productions for you to check out.

See our choices below:

ALIEN FRANCHISE (1979 – 2017)

The legacy of the intergalactic “Alien” saga is indescribable, having cosmologically explored the horrors that inhabit space. The original film, directed by Ridley Scott, was recklessly condemned for using elements of science fiction to find astronomical praise years later, especially since it influenced an entire generation of filmmakers.

Comprised of four original films and two prequels (plus three crossovers with the ‘Predator’ franchise), the narrative essentially centers around a xenomorphic creature who brings chaos and destruction to anyone who dares to cross his path. If the stories vary from one film to another, it must be said that the first two chapters are essential for any fan of the genre.

Enjoy watching:

Now considered a benchmark on the Hollywood scene, “Independence Day” received mixed reviews upon release. However, he is credited with reigniting the mid-1990s sci-fi genre, winning the Oscar for Best Visual Effects the following year and grossing over $ 817 million worldwide.

In the plot, it is discovered that an alien army has taken control of the planet’s communication systems to stage a massive attack on the world’s major cities. When the assaults begin to decimate the world’s population and even nuclear weapons cannot destroy the protective armor, it is up to a group of specialists to unite to destroy the invaders and prevent the human race from becoming extinct.

Well, when you think of ‘Avatar’, the term ‘science fiction’ isn’t the first that comes to mind. However, director James Cameron has managed to disguise the genre’s formulas in an incredible way by merging spatial narrative with environmental issues and predatory imperialism (motivated by which the film has for so many years carried the title of the most successful of all the time).

The story, set in the breathtaking world of Pandora, introduces audiences to the Na’vi, highly evolved beings who fall in the interest of humans who want to extract the mystical properties of the place, creating avatars to blend with. the natives. Winner of three Oscar statuettes, the film featured names such as Sam Worthington, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Zoë Saldaña.

WORLD INVASION: BATTLE OF LOS ANGELES (2011)

In ‘World Invasion: Battle of Los Angeles’, a meteor shower suddenly hits Earth. We soon discover that they are in fact alien vessels, which want to exterminate human beings at all costs. The city of Los Angeles is the target of one of the main battles, among several that take place around the planet. This is Sergeant Michael Nantz (Aaron Eckhart), who has had his retirement canceled due to the severity of the attacks and still suffers from the trauma of having lost several men on his last mission. Obeying the orders of Lieutenant William Martinez (Ramon Rodriguez), he tries to help in whatever he can to eliminate the alien invader.

The film was directed by Jonathan Liebesman and also featured such figures as Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan, Ne-Yo and Michael Peña in the cast, praised for its sound composition and even won awards in the category (despite the massacre of reviews).

ON THE LIMIT OF TOMORROW (2014)

When Earth is invaded by aliens, Bill Cage (Tom Cruise), head of public relations for the United States Armed Forces, is forced to go to the front lines on the day of the final clash. Inexplicably he finds himself stuck in time, doomed to relive that date again and again. With each death and rebirth, Cage moves forward and, anticipating events, has the chance to turn the tide of battle with the support of warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt).

Praised by critics, especially for the alchemy of the two protagonists, “No Limite do Amanhã” has become one of the most iconic titles in the science fiction genre, grossing more than $ 370 million at the global box office and we leaving eager following which no one knows if it will happen.
