Elliot Page will continue to star as Vanya Hargreeves in “ The Umbrella Academy, ” the Netflix series about a family of superheroes that has become one of the streaming service’s biggest hits.
Actor Elliot Page, formerly known as Ellen Page and nominated for an Oscar for her performance in “Juno”, will continue to play the role of Vanya Hargreeves in “The Umbrella Academy”.
Vanya is a cisgender woman whose superpower involves the release of force through sound. There are no plans to change the character’s gender, Netflix sources told Variety.
Page, who has also starred in films in the “ X-Men ” franchise, announced on Tuesday that he is a non-binary transgender person in a heartfelt social media post. The name credited on the IMDB page of “The Umbrella Academy” has already been changed to Elliot.
Netflix is also updating Page’s name in older movies he’s involved with and available to watch on the streaming service. These changes should start to reflect on Tuesday.
Elliot has made an official statement to his followers on social media.
“Hello friends, I would like to share with you that I am a trans person, my pronouns are he / they (in English) and my name is Elliot. I feel good writing this. Be here. To have arrived at this place in my life. I feel immense gratitude for the amazing people who supported me throughout the trip. I don’t even know how to begin to say how amazing I feel when I finally love who I am, enough to go after my authentic self. I was extremely inspired by several people in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, generosity, and tireless efforts to make this world a more inclusive and empathetic place. I offer my support and I continue to fight for a more egalitarian society ”.

Elliot is returning for the already confirmed season 3 of “ The Umbrella Academy, ” filming set to begin in February of next year.
Showrunner Steve Blackman recently revealed to The Wrap that he already has grandiose plans for the possible future of production.
He shared his thoughts on the Hargreeves brothers ‘journey, saying the new timeline promises to change everything in the characters’ lives:
“They are terrible to the world because they are a very dysfunctional family. These guys can’t get it right, both in their relationships with each other, as well as as superheroes. But I think they are improving a bit and we hope that if we are lucky to win a 3rd season they will improve a bit more ”.
Blackman went even further when commenting on the evolution of the characters since his first season:
“They are growing up and I like to think that as we move forward their powers are changing as well. They learn new things. They were trained until the age of 14 or 15 by a very dysfunctional father, but the family fell apart and they couldn’t complete their training. And maybe they will find in the future that their powers are stronger when they are together ”.
