‘Ahsoka’: Will Benedict Cumberbatch play Admiral Thrawn? Astro responds!

In the 5th episode of the 2nd season of ‘The Mandalorian’, it is revealed that Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) is looking for Admiral Thrawn.

For those unfamiliar with him, Thrawn becomes the new major threat to the Republic following the deaths of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine.

After Ahsoka’s mention, everything indicates that the villain could appear in the next Jedi Renegade series … and many fans are already campaigning for Benedict Cumberbatch (‘Doctor Strange’) to be cast for the role.

However, the star spoke to Collider about the matter and said he has no interest in bringing the villain to life.

When asked if he would accept the role, he replied that he didn’t even know who the character was.

“Grand Admiral Thrawn? Is he like Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing) or something like that? I’ve never heard of it, so that’s a no. You don’t hear from me here and now.

When Cumberbatch learned the villain was blue, he even joked, saying:

“Certainly not, I don’t want to paint myself blue. I love spending time with my kids and I think sitting in a chair for hours painting would take a long time, I’m away.

Created by Jon Favreau (from the live-action ‘The Lion King’), the series is set in the same universe as the ‘Star Wars’ franchise.

The plot takes place after the fall of the Empire and before the insurgency of the First Order. The story follows the journey of a lone gunner to the far reaches of the galaxy, far from the authority of the New Republic.

The cast includes Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Nick Nolte and Werner Herzog.
