‘Avatar’ could grab biggest box office in movie history with relaunch in China

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Avatar” will be screened in Chinese theaters again and copies will begin to be available on Friday (12).

This means the James Cameron-led sci-fi adventure could regain its spot as the biggest box office in movie history, a title he won nearly ten years before the premiere of ‘Avengers. : Endgame ”.

For those who don’t remember, “Avatar” grossed $ 2.790 billion in 2009 and seemed to stay on the podium much longer. However, the Marvel adaptation raised $ 2.777 billion worldwide.

If “ Avatar ” raises at least $ 7.4 million, that will mark the new (and predictable) turnaround for box office filmmakers.

In 2009, science fiction broke the record for its weekday debut in China, with a turnover of $ 202.6 million, an impressive sum for the time.

It should be mentioned that China is the second highest financial yielding market in the world, behind only the United States, so “Avengers: Endgame” is in serious danger of being pushed to the 2nd place.

Either way, Disney will make a profit, as the Avatar image rights have now been part of the studio since the Fox acquisition.

Meanwhile, the filming of ‘Avatar 2’ is already 100% complete. The information was shared by James Cameron himself.

“Covid hit us like everyone else. We lost about four and a half months of production. And as a result, we had to postpone the movie premiere for a year, until December 2022. But that doesn’t mean we have more time to finish the movie, because on the day we delivered ‘Avatar 2’, we have started work on finalizing “Avatar 3”. And right now we’re filming in New Zealand. We are recording what is missing from the live-action and there is still 10% to be done. We have already completed 100% of “Avatar 2” and we have completed approximately 95% of “Avatar 3”.

The delay around the second film is said to be due to the fact that Cameron is investing in new technologies in theaters.

In an interview with Digital Spy, he revealed that he had created “technology so advanced that no one could imagine it today”.

“We have the best artists and technicians in the world to create a film so visually rich it will shock everyone. We are going to surprise you with a film that is innovative in every way, ”he said.

‘Avatar 2’ won’t hit theaters until 2022, after four years of delay.

Cameron has already scheduled the release of the other chapters of the saga.
