Filming for the long-awaited “Batgirl” has finally begun and will feature Leslie Grace as the main character, Barbara Gordon’s alter-ego, in the DC Cinematic Universe.

As if that weren’t enough, the project will also make several references to other characters in the superheroic pantheon, including Dinah Lance / Black Canary, who in the comics is the founder of the group known as Birds of Prey. alongside Barbara, in addition to confirming Michael Keaton’s Batman as one of the appearances in the feature film.

Now, as filming continues, the behind-the-scenes photos have gone viral on social media – and the first wave of them, which you can see below, ties in with Black Canary, played by Jurnee Smollett in the live-action ‘Birds of Prey‘, by 2020

It should be remembered, however, that the actress has not been confirmed in ‘Batgirl’, at least for now:

Previously, director Adil El Arbi posted another behind-the-scenes image, adding that Barbara Gordon would be a cop in the plot.

To verify:

El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, co-director of the feature, also revealed that the upcoming project will feature John Mathieson as cinematographer.

In addition to Grace, iconic actor Brendan Fraser (‘The Mummy’, ‘Doom Patrol’) will play the antagonist Firefley (Firefly).

For those unfamiliar with him, Firefly made his comic book debut in Detective Comics # 184 in June 1952, and was reinvented decades later as a sociopathic arsonist with an obsessive compulsion to start fires.

In addition, it is also equipped with a suit containing a heavy arsenal of firearms, including flamethrowers, grenades, napalm and smoke bombs, as well as a superheated plasma blade for close combat.

JK Simmons (Commissioner James Gordon) and Jacob Scipio (role withheld) will also be in production.

Previously, Grace revealed a bit of the plot along.

“Barbara is someone who has been underestimated even by her own father. And as a younger daughter you are sometimes isolated from all the difficult things in life so she is eager to prove it to herself and to everyone that there are things she can handle on her own.

She went on to compare herself to the character:

“In the research I did for the pre-production, I learned a lot about Barbara that connects me to her. I really identified with her because this is only my second job as an actress and I feel like I’m on a journey to prove to myself what barriers I can break, what boundaries I can overcome and I I am delighted to embody all of this the anxiety, stubbornness and determination that are Barbara’s character.

Finally, she commented on her reaction upon finding out that she had been chosen.

“Oh man! It was a shock, it was crazy. I auditioned and it was mind-blowing, but deep down you never expect it. I found out through Zoom, because the maintainers got a surprise and everything. I thought I would do one more test and it’s always mind-blowing to think about it. They made me read an email that said, “I’m Batgirl.” I was shaking, not understanding what was going on. It was wonderful and this role will be a blessing in my career.
