‘Black Panther’: Ryan Coogler develops spinoff series on the Kingdom of Wakanda

Walt Disney has extended his contract with famous director Ryan Coogler and the astonishing universe of the movie “Black Panther“.

According to Deadline, Casa Mouse signed a five-year television contract with Coogler and his production company, Proximity Media. The director is also working on a series for the studio – a drama based on the Kingdom of Wakanda for Disney +.

“Ryan Coogler is a unique director whose vision and approach made him one of the best of his generation,” said Bob Iger, CEO of Disney. “With ‘Black Panther’, Ryan brought a groundbreaking story and iconic characters to life in a meaningful and memorable way, creating an exciting cultural moment. We are delighted to strengthen our relationship and to tell more great stories with Ryan and his team ”.

Coogler, for his part, said, “It is an honor to partner with The Walt Disney Company. Working with them on “Black Panther” was a dream come true. As a big TV consumer, I couldn’t be happier to launch our TV projects with Bob Iger, Dana Walden and all the amazing studios under the command of Disney.

As of yet, no casting and story information has been confirmed on the series.

It’s worth remembering that Coogler is also returning as director and screenwriter for “ Black Panther 2, ” which is slated to open on July 8, 2022.
