The Wrap confirms that DC and Warner Bros. are developing a solo film about Jaime Reyes, aka The Blue Beetle.

‘Cobra Kai’ actor Xolo Maridueña is in talks to star in the production.

So far, no further details have been revealed.

Angel Manuel Soto (‘Charm City Kings’) will be the director.

Mexican writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who wrote the screenplay for the latest remake of “Scarface”, scripted the production.

Zev Foreman will be the executive producer of the feature film.

In the comics, teenager Jaime Reyes is the third character to take on the role of the Blue Beetle after Dan Garrett and Ted Kord. Created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers and Cully Hamner, the character made her first comic book appearance in “Infinite Crisis” # 5 2006. Her own monthly series debuted two months later with “Blue Beetle” # 1 in May 2006.

In the comics, Jaime Reyes discovered the Blue Beetle half-buried in abandoned land on his way home from school. Curious, Reyes picked up the scarab and took it home. That night, the insect comes to life and launches at the boy, settling at the base of his spine. Thus, he offers an alien costume that can be modified to provide exceptional speed and strength to the wearer, as well as to create weapons, wings and shields.
