‘Bullet Train’ and ACTION movies that take place in the same setting

No, he’s not the lightning-fast hero from Amazon Prime Video’s misguided The Boys series. We are talking here about the new super production of star Brad Pitt. The actor hasn’t filmed since 2019, when he released Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Ad Astra – To the Stars. Well, it’s true that in early 2022 he appeared in a guest appearance on comedy Lost City, at the request of fellow cast member Sandra Bullock – who returned the favor with a cameo appearance on Bullet Train. So let’s just say this is the first movie he’s starred in since 2019. Trem-Bala is already hitting theaters around the world, having premiered last Thursday, August 4, here in Brazil, officially kicking off sending the big blockbusters of the month. The plot, based on a Japanese book, focuses much of its action inside a high-speed train, when a group of expert assassins find themselves on board and realize that their fates are intertwined. . The movie train is a fictionalized version of the real Shinkansen train – one of the fastest in the world.

It’s the first time an action movie has used the blazingly fast vehicle as a backdrop – at least for much of its narrative (since in the past, long films like the first Mission: Impossible and Immortal Wolverine performed a specific scene using the vehicle). With that in mind and taking this much-loved new feature as a hook, we decided to remind you of some of the iconic action movies of the past that used a single storyline, be it a vehicle or another location, the were using as the center of their narrative and sold it on top of that. Check it out below.

You can’t talk about an action movie without thinking of Die Hard. Even today, the film starring Bruce Willis and directed by John McTiernan (the same as The Predator) is synonymous with excellence in the genre. Many may not know this, but the film responsible for transforming Willis into a star and name associated with crime cinema is also based on a book. Here, of course, the whole story takes place inside a building in Los Angeles, the fictional Nakatomi Plaza (actually Fox Plaza, the building that contained the offices of one of Hollywood’s biggest studios and the film producer).

The first Die Hard was unanimously acclaimed, so it would be very difficult for the studio not to greenlight a sequel, even if they didn’t necessarily ask for it. Even more difficult, naysayers predicted, would be making a movie as good as the original. Well, we can say that the pessimists were wrong again. Bruce Willis returned, and the plot was once again based on a book (perhaps that’s where the franchise’s secret lies). The suit has now been transferred to Washington, Dulles International Airport. The place turned out to be as effective a scenario as the original building, in a plot that was perhaps even more full of twists and sought-after action.

Have fun watching:

Anything that succeeds and becomes a phenomenon in Hollywood quickly creates its own trend. There, the number of “imitators” is always greater than the original ideas. The truth is that in the real world, things are no different either. Either way, Die Hard became a fever and quickly spread its influences from action cinema to other films. Warner was one of the fastest companies and, without wasting much time, spawned its own “Die Hard” puppies. It’s very easy to imagine that this vehicle featuring Wesley Snipes (then one of the kings of the genre) was sold to executives as a “Die Hard on a plane”. And that’s exactly what it is.

Today Steven Seagal may even be a joke to many, but in the late 80s and early 90s he rose to action stardom with films that were hits. critics and audiences. It was his biggest and most ambitious project: a $35 million Warner-funded blockbuster directed by Andrew Davis, who would direct the following year, Oscar-nominated The Fugitive, starring Harrison Ford. Here, Seagal lives a decorated military cook, who sees the battleship he is on board held hostage by terrorists – along with the entire crew – leaving only him to save the day. And yes, it’s a “Die Hard on the ship”.

The Standing Force can be considered the greatest and most ambitious film of Steven Seagal’s career. It was also the most successful critically and at the box office. Naturally, Warner saw not a window, but a wide-open door to a suite. After all, rival Fox already had a charismatic hero in the form of Bruce Willis’ John McClane, and Steven Seagal’s Casey Ryback seemed like a perfect fit for Warner as well. Thus, three years later, the studio removed from the paper the sequel which this time placed the protagonist inside a high-speed train, where terrorists threatened the world. It’s being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It wasn’t quite a high-speed train, but it did some damage.

Long before John Wick and even before The Matrix, good guy Keanu Reeves was becoming an action hero in the early 90s. Many might point to The Thrillers (1991) as his right foot entry into the genre, but that was Speed which would achieve new levels of success for the actor’s stardom. Top Speed was a sensation in its day and surprisingly stole much of the limelight from other blockbusters see True Lies and The Flintstones – The Movie. The plot begins inside an elevator and becomes claustrophobic inside a bus, which cannot slow down or a bomb explodes. Reeves plays Jack Traven, and the film would still introduce us to a young Sandra Bullock at the turning point of her career.

There is nothing so good that it cannot be spoiled. And not always the sequel to a blockbuster movie comes close to its original. Not everyone can be Die Hard 2. And Top Speed 2 certainly isn’t. Although the same Jan de Bont returned to direct, star Keanu Reeves decided to go his own way, wanting nothing to do with this sequel, which swapped the bus for a transatlantic cruise. And yes, if you think a cruiser is too slow a vehicle for an action movie called Top Speed, you’re absolutely right. Sandra Bullock returned and gained stardom as the protagonist. And in Reeves’ absence, the bland Jason Patric stepped in. Best thing is the ever-great Willem Dafoe playing the villainous cartoon.

The younger generation may not believe it, but Nicolas Cage was one of the greatest action heroes of the late 90s, having won the Oscar for Best Actor. Alright, maybe that’s too much information for younger kids, so we’ll focus on the movie. After doing very well in A Rocha (1996), several scenarios of the genre arrived at the door of the actor, who at the time had a reputation. The first one he accepted was this Con Air, which makes him a tragic hero, a prisoner serving time for killing a guy in a fight to defend his wife. The so-called Con Air in the title refers to the plane that transports convicts and oddly places it next to the country’s worst criminals. When the bad guys take over the airship, it’s up to Cameron Poe (Cage) to do the right thing.
