Recently, the star spoke to Variety and revealed that he was very happy to act as Captain America because he wanted to be an example to children since he was cast for the role.
“It was scary when I heard that I had been chosen, but it was so cool… From that point on I knew I would be seen as an example by the kids and I built the character in this goal. I grew up watching “Star Wars” so Luke and Obi-Wan were my role models, so I wanted to do something like Captain America, make myself a good role model for the younger ones.
The star said he tries to reflect these examples in his personal life, as fans have a lot more access to performers today than they did a few years ago.
“We live in a different time, with all these social networks… Anyone can follow our personal life, so I try to be a good example on and off the screen. A few years ago, celebrities were off limits, but the internet has brought us closer to the fans, and when you get that much affection, you know you’re admired and respected.
Previously, Chris’ mother Lisa revealed to Esquire that he almost turned down the role because he was afraid of losing his personal life, but she managed to convince him to accept the proposal.
“Chris doesn’t feel like a celebrity and his biggest fear was losing his anonymity because it was a contract for several films over several years. He told me, “Now I have a career where I can do a job that I really love. But I’m afraid I won’t be able to walk my dog or walk without being disturbed by photographers all the time. I want to go where I want as a normal human being. The thought of losing this is terrifying. So I said, ‘Look, do you want to be an actor for the rest of your life? If you accept this role, you will have a unique opportunity. You don’t worry about rent or hunger. Just decide that it won’t affect your personal life. “
Fortunately, he thought calmly and managed to bring the hero to life between 2011 and 2019, when he said goodbye to the shield in “ Avengers: Endgame. ”
Released in 2019, the film became the highest grossing film of all time ($ 2.8 billion), surpassing “ Avatar ” ($ 2.79 billion) after a nearly 10-year reign.
