According to Variety, Colin Hanks, Diane Guerrero and hip-hop star Nelly have joined the cast of “ Clear Lake, ” a biopic that will focus on iconic 1950s musician Buddy Holly.
The trio join previously announced Ruairi O’Connor who will bring Holly to life.
Bruce Beresford is leading the project, which will tell the story of the musician and his colleagues who brought what we today call rock ‘n’ roll to life.
Hanks plays Norman Petty, producer and Holly’s assistant. Guerrero, known for her roles in the series “Orange Is the New Black” and “Patrol of Destiny”, will play Buddy’s wife, Maria Elena Holly. Nelly, in turn, will bring Chuck Berry to life on his big screen debut.

“Clear Lake” tells the story of how Holly and other famous musicians of the late 1950s brought rock ‘n’ roll to life by changing the course of the civil rights movement in the United States. The 22-year-old tragically died in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa on February 3, 1959, alongside Ritchie Valens, JP “The Big Bopper” Richardson and pilot Roger Peterson.
