Daisy Ridley will give life to the first woman to cross the English Channel in ‘Young Woman and the Sea’ drama

According to Deadline, Daisy Ridley (“Star Wars”, “Murder on the Orient Express”) will play record-breaking swimmer Trudy Ederle in the Disney + biopic “The Young Woman and the Sea.”

Joachim Rønning will be the project manager.

Ederle was a competitive athlete from Manhattan who won gold at the 1924 Olympics before deciding to do the impossible: swim the English Channel, funding her adventure by selling her own story to two different newspapers. Only five men had completed the dangerous journey before Ederle, who was preparing for a 21-mile journey between Battery Park, New York, and Sandy Hook, New Jersey. She received a celebratory parade upon her return to New York.

This is the first time that the story will be adapted for the audiovisual circuit.

Jerry Bruckheimer enters as producer of the feature film, with Jeff Nathason adapting the screenplay for Glenn Stout’s book of the same name.
