In an interview with Collider, Jan de Bont, the director of the classic “Maximum Speed 3”, raised the possibility of making a new sequel to the franchise.

“[Para acontecer um terceiro filme], would depend on the story. In general, I’m not a big fan of sequences. I had signed a contract for a continuation. But you had to convince the actors to come back, otherwise I would have to make a whole new movie.

He continues: “The first film was very focused on [personagem do Keanu Reeves], in the improbability that he is the hero. And it’s because he was forced to be in that position that the movie worked out really well for him, but not for the other actors. It is very difficult to save that kind of feeling.

The debut film, starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, was a huge box office hit, grossing over $ 350 million, on a budget of just $ 30 million.

The sequel, which relied only on Bullock’s return, was a critical and box office failure, burying a high-potential franchise once and for all.

The first film was released in 1994. In the plot, Howard Payne is a psychopath who threatens Los Angeles with explosives, but Agent Jack Traven is about to capture him. When the killer sets bombs on a bus, the policeman will have to evacuate the passengers without slowing the vehicle to less than 80 km / h.
