“MegaJaws 2” has had its release date revealed by Warner Bros. and it will be released next year!
Titled “Meg 2: The Trench,” the film will hit theaters on August 4, 2023.
Filming has now wrapped at Leavesden Studios outside London, where Warner Bros. he also helmed titles such as the “Batman” and “Harry Potter” franchises.
Ben Wheatley, who helmed the Netflix thriller “Rebecca,” is directing.
The director shared his excitement and his plans are to honor the prehistoric giant shark’s reach.
“My goal is to respect MegaTubarão and try to make it a great movie. It’s an opportunity to act on such a grand scale, it’s just amazing. It’s going to be just amazing. I feel a big responsibility, to make sure I please the big shark fans.

It should be noted that Li Bingbing, who played marine biologist Suyin Zhang, will NOT be returning for the sequel. Interestingly, Sophia Cai, who played her character’s daughter in the 2018 film, has had her return confirmed in the sequel.
The reason the actress is staying out of the project has not been revealed, only “there are no plans for her return to the franchise at this time.”
The sequel will feature the return of Jason Statham, Cliff Curtis, Sophia Cai and Page Kennedy, as well as the introduction of Sienna Guillory, Skyler Samuels and Sergio Peris-Mencheta.
A hit in theaters, “MegaTubarão” surprised at the box office and brought in a monstrous sum of $530.2 million worldwide.
