According to TVLine, Dan Stevens (“Legion”) will replace actor Armie Hammer (“Call me by your name”) in the anthology series “Gaslit”, which is being developed by Starz.

Stevens will take on the role of John Dean, a young White House adviser torn between his ambition and his confrontation over lying to the president.

The replacement was due to several controversies surrounding Armie Hammer, accused of cannibalism, abuse and rape. The actor was also fired from several other productions, such as “Billion Dollar Spy“, “The Offer”, “Shotgun Wedding”, in addition to being released by his own agency.

The series will star with Oscar winner Julia Roberts.

The anthology is based on Slate magazine’s acclaimed and award-winning “ Slow Burn ” podcast and revolves around the Watergate scandal.

The first season revolves around the role of Martha Mitchell (Roberts) in uncovering the controversies over the case that resulted in President Richard Nixon’s resignation. Sean Penn will bring John, Martha’s husband and Nixon’s former lawyer, to life.

Robbie Pickering (“Mr. Robot”) enters as showrunner and executive producer. Matt Ross (“Captain Fantastic“) will be the director of the episodes.
