Deadline previously reported that Legendary Pictures was charging WarnerMedia at least $ 250 million to publish the release of “ Godzilla vs Kong ” in the HBO Max catalog in 2021.

That’s because the studio was negotiating the sale of the title to Netflix for the same amount, but the decision was blocked by Warner Bros, who co-produced the feature.

However, Legendary has funded 75% of the production and executives are considering opening a lawsuit against WarnerMedia in an attempt to prevent the streaming release if the billed amount is not paid.

In addition, Legendary had not been previously informed of Warner’s strategy to launch all of its titles slated for 2021 on HBO Max.

The controversy has generated great friction between the two companies, and their respective leaders continue to try to find an agreement that will not affect future partnerships after 2021.

For now, further details have not been revealed, but it is possible that the outcome of this battle will be released soon.

Recalling that “ Godzilla vs Kong ” remains scheduled in May 2021 in North American cinemas.

Check out the synopsis, as well as the production posters:

“Humanity fights for its future, as Godzilla and Kong embark on a path of destruction that will bring the two most powerful forces of nature in the world to collide in a great war.”

Originally slated to open in November of this year, the film has been postponed until May 21, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Legendary and Warner Bros. launched MonsterVerse in 2014 with “Godzilla”, which paved the way for “Kong: Skull Island”. The most recent film was the sequel “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” which did not appeal to critics and had a disappointing run at the box office.

It should be noted that “Godzilla vs Kong” will have a low age indication, being recommended for those over 14 (PG-13). The trait was classified as “intense sequences of violence / destruction between creatures and light language”.

The cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Julian Dennison, Rebecca Hall, Eiza Gonzalez, Brian Tyree Henry, Alexander Skarsgård, Jessica Henwick and Demian Bichir in the cast.
