2021 marks the start of a new era, but also a time to remember the classics loved by the world that celebrate their birthdays. HARRY POTTER AND THE DEAD DEATHS – PART 2

The final chapter in the most famous wizarding saga of all time has come to an end ten years after its big screen debut. ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2‘ turned out to be a worthy conclusion to a fantastic franchise, guided by incredible performances, stunning graphics and the final battle between Harry and the Dark Lord. The critically acclaimed film won a BAFTA and was nominated for three categories at the 2012 Oscars.

The fourth film in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise came as a surprise and instantly – which is why it drew millions of viewers in theaters, grossing nearly $ 1.1 billion. . Based on the novel of the same name by Brian Selznick, the plot centers on a twelve-year-old boy who lives in a train station in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century. Granting Octavia Spencer an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and a nomination for Viola Davis for Best Actress, the film is based on the novel signed by Kathryn Stockett and takes place in a rural United States community that deals with racial issues and segregation.

MIDNIGHT IN PARIS

Written and directed by Woody Allen, “Midnight in Paris” is a fantasy novel that has been revisited to this day by audiences and won three Oscar nominations. In the plot, Gil Pender is a young writer in search of fame. On vacation in Paris with his fiancée, he sets off on his own to explore the city and meets a group of foreigners who are in fact big names in literature. They take Gil on a trip down memory lane and the more time they spend together, the more unhappy the young writer is with the present.

Meryl Streep won her third statuette at the Oscars for her incredible work on “The Iron Lady“, 29 years after winning the last award. Here, the actress plays the controversial character of Margaret Thatcher, the English Prime Minister responsible for the institution of contemporary British neoliberalism. The film directed by Phyllida Lloyd also won several other awards, including a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

Based on Hergé’s famous comic book series, “The Adventures of Tintin” is an underrated animation that deserved greater recognition – despite a relatively positive response from critics and audiences alike. Directed and produced by none other than Steven Spielberg, the film won an Oscar nomination and four Annie Awards, telling the story of a young journalist involved in some sort of scavenger hunt after buying a miniature pirate ship.

MOTHER OF MARRIAGE MISSION

Prior to the controversial ‘Ghostbusters‘ reboot, Paul Feig and Kristen Wiig had worked together on one of the best comedies of recent times: ‘Maid of Honor Mission’. Starting from a simple premise – Wiig struggles to take center stage for his best friend’s wedding against a snobbish newcomer – the film was a box office smash and unexpected critical success (securing two nominations at the Oscars).

The remake of the classic 1984 film greatly delighted audiences and critics alike, and while it didn’t bring as many original elements to it, it delivered an interesting perspective to a timeless plot. In the plot, young Ren moves from Boston to a small town where dancing and loud music are prohibited due to a tragic accident. Ren challenges this culture and shares his passion for dancing with the rest of the city.

MEN WHO DON’T LIKE WOMEN

The powerful psychological thriller directed by David Fincher has just kept its name at the top of the entertainment industry – winning critical acclaim and receiving five Oscar nominations. In the plot, an investigative journalist and a hacker are hired to unravel the disappearance of a young woman 36 years ago. As the investigation progresses, the risks increase, with the young woman’s family unwilling to have their secrets revealed.

It might have taken a while, but the wave of remakes and reboots hit one of the most well-known sagas of all time: “Planet of the Apes”. Almost 45 years after the release of the first film, Rupert Wyatt commissioned a beautiful origin story from the post-apocalyptic universe. In the plot, a science experiment results in a chimpanzee with superior intelligence who ends up leading a rebellion against humans to rule planet Earth.
