Vernoff also said he asked ABC to give him an opinion on whether he will remain in office or be fired as the uncertainty could affect the events of the series.

My hands are tied because I don’t know if there will be a closure or if I will build something more. Either way, this suspense gave me the opportunity to create something that concludes the series without leaving any loose ends or hooks that will lead nowhere.

Created by writer and producer Shonda Rhimes in 2005, the attraction reinvents itself every season and has even included the coronavirus pandemic as one of its themes.
