“House of the Dragon” is one of the most anticipated series of 2022 and functions as a spin-off story from the famous “Game of Thrones” fantasy. And our expectations for the production of HBO Max got even higher when George RR Martin, author of the original books, wasn’t disgusted with the adaptation.
On his official Not a Blog blog, Martin shared his animation for the pre-sequence, revealing that he has seen the show’s first cut before and is simply “dark, powerful and visceral.”
“I’m really excited for ‘House of the Dragon’, I have to say. Okay, I’m not objective. And I know a lot of what you’re going to see (I, uh, wrote the book). Also… Don’t tell anyone… I watched the first cut of the first episode. And I loved it. It’s dark, powerful, visceral… The way I love my epic fantasy, ”he wrote.
The novelist continues, “I think the Targaryens are in very good hands. Stay excited. I don’t think you will be disappointed. “
Recently, seven new cast members were confirmed: Graham McTavish (‘The Hobbit’, ‘Aquaman’), Gavin Spokes (‘Brexit’), Matthew Needham (‘Chernobyl’), Bill Paterson (‘Fleabag’), Ryan Corr (‘Holding the Man’), Jefferson Hall (‘Devs’) and David Horovitch (‘The Nun’).
The cast also includes Olivia Cooke, who will play Alicent Hightower, the beautiful daughter of King’s Hand; Emma D’Arcy will play Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, the eldest daughter of Viserys; Matt Smith will play Prince Daemon Targaryen, the king’s younger brother; Paddy Considine will be King Viserys; Fabien Frankel will play Ser Criston Cole, member of the guard of King Viserys I Targaryen; Rhys Ifans will play Otto Hightower, the hand of the king; Steve Toussaint will play Lord Corlys Velaryon, the serpent of the sea; Eve Best will play Princess Rhaenys Velaryon; Sonoya Mizuno will play Mysaria, one of the most reliable (and unlikely) allies of Prince Daemon Targaryen, heir to the throne; and Graham McTavish in an undisclosed role; and Milly Alcock and Emily Carey will play young Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower respectively.
The “House of the Dragon” premiere is scheduled for next year on HBO.
The story takes place 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and will follow Daenerys’ ancestors as House Targaryen crumbles. The plot is based on the novel “Fire & Blood”, by George RR Martin, who also enters as a creator alongside Ryan J. Condal.
Ten episodes have been ordered for the first season.
Check out the official synopsis of the book:
Centuries before the events of War of Thrones, House Targaryen – the only dragonlord family to survive the Destruction of Valyria – made their home in Dragonstone. The story of Fire & Blood begins with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and continues with the chronicle of the generations of Targaryens who fought to keep their seat, until the Civil War which nearly destroyed their dynasty.
What really happened during the dragon dance? Why was it so dangerous to visit Valyria after the Destruction? What were Maegor the Cruel’s worst crimes? These are some of the questions answered by this essential work, reported by a wise master of the Citadel.
