JK Rowling, author of ‘Harry Potter’, has received death threats on Twitter, after expressing outrage at the attack on fellow writer Salman Rushdie. A man then replied to her, suggesting that she too was at risk of being killed.
“I feel really bad right now. Hope he’s okay,” Rowling commented on Rushdie’s attempted murder. Shortly after, user @MeerAsifAziz1 replied, “Don’t worry, you’re next!”
After that, the author asked for help from platform support and thanked the expressions of support she received. “Thank you for the messages. The police are already involved in this threat and others,” Rowling said.
The account, which is now deactivated, was titled “Student, Social Activist, Political Activist and Research Activist”. According to the British tabloid Daily Mail, Meer Asif Aziz is Pakistani and an extremist Islamist.
As well as the explicit threat, he reportedly praised the man who carried out the attack on Rushdie, 24-year-old Hadi Matar, on several occasions.
