Karl Urban recalls the tragic death of Anton Yelchin: “It was very painful”

During an interview with GQ, Karl Urban (‘The Boys’) commented on the most remarkable works of his career and could not ignore the ‘Star Trek’ trilogy.

The interpreter of Dr. Leonard McCoy spoke of his friendship with the late Anton Yelchin, alias Chekov, mourning the untimely death of the star.

For those who don’t remember, Yelchin died in 2016, aged 27, after being run over by his own car in a tragic accident.

“I love having worked on a saga loved by so many people. I think the last film was the best, in my opinion. Unfortunately, it was after that that we tragically lost Anton, and it was very painful. He was a good friend and an extraordinary actor too, very respected.For us, it was a real tragedy.

Remember that a 4th film is already being developed by Paramount with the return of a large part of the cast, and producer JJ Abrams has specified that the role of Yelchin will not be recast.

Despite expectations, Zachary Quinto isn’t sure the movie will start filming anytime soon.

Currently, the interpreter of Spock plays in the play ‘Who’s afraid of Virginia Wolfe?’, in which the director of the next ‘Star Trek 4’, Matt Shakman, works as artistic director.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Quinto opened up about the future of “Star Trek” and made no secret of his anxiety about reuniting with the cast.

However, he stressed that it will still take time for this to happen.

“It’s not going to be filmed anytime soon. Despite the announcement, I don’t know if we will record this year. To tell you the truth, I don’t know when that will happen.

He continued:

“I always make it clear how badly I want to do this new movie. But until we get something concrete, until someone says to me, ‘we’re going to shoot on such a date, here’s your script, get ready” – I’ll wait in some disbelief. I’m not really attached to it in any way until I’m sure it’s actually happening.”

Previously, Chris Pine, interpreter of Captain Kirk, had revealed to Variety that he was not even aware that the project was announced.

“I think everyone was like, ‘Have you heard of that?’ [Risos]. We’re usually the last to know, but I know we’re all excited. Whenever they want to send us a script, we are ready to do so.

When asked if he could reveal any details about the sequel, Pine said:

“We still haven’t received a script. So I know absolutely nothing about the new movie, but what matters now is that [a produção] has passed.”

Although the script is still in the works, the star was reportedly the first to sign the return contract and revealed he only did so because he loves the franchise with all his heart.

“I’m very excited. I love the story. I love ‘Star Trek’. I love these guys who have been with me since the first movie. That’s why I signed him.

According to the portal, Abrams estimates that the new movie should start filming by the end of this year.

“We are thrilled to say that we are hard at work on a new ‘Star Trek’ movie, which will be filming towards the end of the year with the return of our original cast and new characters who will be great fun and excitement.”

He continued:

“We’re excited about this movie, we’ve got a bunch of other stories we’re talking about that we think are going to be really exciting, so we can’t wait for audiences to see what we’re up to. Live long and prosper.”

The screenplay originally written by Noah Howley (“Legion”) is being reworked by Lindsey Beer (“Sierra Burgess is a Loser”) and Geneva Robertson (“Captain Marvel,” “Tomb Raider: Inception”) .

Still without a title or premiere date, there is no plot information for the new film, but updates should be released in the coming months.

Recalling that the last film in the franchise was ‘Star Trek: Without Borders’, released in 2016

Directed by Justin Lin (“Fast & Furious 9”), the film earned just $343.4 million worldwide, on a budget of $185 million.

Despite this, the sequel was very well received by critics, earning an 86% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
