Bad news for ‘Lizzie McGuire’ fans! The relaunch of the series in development for Disney + has been canceled and will not continue on the streaming service.
The news was shared by Hilary Duff herself, on her Instagram.
“I am very honored to have the character of Lizzie in my life. It impacted the lives of many people, including mine. Seeing the loyalty and love of the fans means a lot to me. We’ve put in a lot of effort and had a lot of conversations to make the restart work, but sadly that’s not going to happen. I want the ‘Lizzie McGuire’ reboot to be honest and genuine to the person Lizzie is today. This is what the character deserves. We can take a moment to mourn the incredible woman she would have been and the adventures we would have with her. I’m really sad, but I promise everyone tried their best, but the stars didn’t line up.
It should be remembered that the development of the revival faced several problems behind the scenes. Disney and Hilary Duff reportedly failed to compromise on the tone of the production.
Due to these creative disagreements, showrunner Terri Minsky left the project.
“Lizzie McGuire” presented two seasons, which aired between 2001 and 2004. In 2003, the production won its own TV movie.
