‘Minari’: Steven Yeun is the first Asian actor to win an Oscar nomination for best actor

The acclaimed family drama “ Minari ” has borne fruit since it launched at the Sundance Film Festival last year and after earning six 2021 BAFTA nominations, the production has just won six more 2021 Oscar nominations.

Among them, that of the best actor, in which Steve Yeun was nominated. The star also took a historic step by becoming the first Asian American actor to be nominated in the category in question.

He will compete for the statuette alongside big names such as Riz Ahmed (‘The Sound of Silence’), Chadwick Boseman, (‘The Supreme Voice of the Blues’), Anthony Hopkins (‘ My Father ‘) and Gary Oldmand (‘ Mank ‘).

The film is also in competition for the categories of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Screenplay and Best Soundtrack.

The ceremony takes place on April 25.

The work is directed and written by Lee Isaac Chung.

“Minari” revolves around a Korean-American family who move to a small farm in Arkansas in search of restarting life and achieving the much-promised “American Dream”. However, the house changes completely with the arrival of the irreverent and beloved grandmother.
