‘Nomadland’: drama with Frances McDormand could make history at Oscar 2021!

The tour de force drama ‘Nomadland’ was one of the most acclaimed films on the festival circuit last year (with a massive 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes). And, given the stupendous reviews, it’s very likely the film will be one of the top 2021 Oscar nominees – and make history.

The film stars Frances McDormand, who previously won the Best Actress award for “Three Ads for One Crime” and who may be nominated again. Additionally, McDormand is one of the executive producers of the work and, if the predictions come true, he will also be nominated in the Best Picture category alongside Peter Spears, Mollye Asher, Dan Janvey and Chloe Zhao.

Thus, it will be the first time that a woman is nominated in both sections in the same year.

The film received the LEÃO DE OURO award for BEST FILM at its world premiere at the 77th Venice Film Festival. The feature film was also screened at the 45th Toronto Film Festival and the Telluride Festival.

The film is written and directed by Zhao (“Eternos“).

After the economic collapse of an industrial colony in rural Nevada (USA), Fern (McDormand) gathers his things in a van and sets off on an exploratory journey, out of mainstream society, like a modern day nomad. NOMADLAND, Chloe Zhao’s third film, features true nomads like Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and companions on their journey of exploration across the vast landscape of the American West.

David Strathain, Linda May, Charlene Swakie and Bob Wells complete the cast.

“Nomadland” will soon debut in national cinemas.
