The production had its first season commissioned by NBC’s Peacock streaming service.

The production will bring the return of the eponymous protagonist, played by Soleil Moon Frye, as well as the return of Cherie Johnson as Punky’s best friend.

The sequel will follow Punky’s routine as a single mother of three, trying to get her life back on track, until she meets a baby girl named Izzy, who reminds her of her childhood.

Quinn Copeland, who previously appeared in a Broadway musical, will play Izzy. Actor Freddie Prinze Jr. will bring Travis, the titular character’s ex-husband, to life.

Travis is described as “a very hardworking musician who, despite his inability to stay home, remains an excellent parent to his children.”

“Punky, A Levada da Breca” had four seasons, aired in the United States between 1984 and 1988. The plot revolves around Punky, a little girl abandoned by her mother and adopted by Arthur Bicudo (George Gaynes), an old grumpy man walking past a big change after the girl comes into your life.

The series also spawned an animated spin-off with two seasons, following Punky’s adventures alongside a magical creature called Glomer.
