Actress Hannah John-Kamen has been hired to play ‘Red Sonja’ in the heroine’s live-action film.
The actress played Phantom in “Ant-Man and the Wasp”.
Joey Soloway (“Transparent”) will direct and co-write the screenplay with Tasha Huo, who will be the showrunner of the animated series “Tomb Raider”.
“Hannah is a very talented actress who we have followed for years and she IS Red Sonja,” Soloway said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “Her reach, sensitivity and strength are qualities we have been looking for and we could not be more excited to undertake this journey together.”
Soloway was excited about the project.
“I have always loved ‘Red Sonja’ and I am honored to help tell your story and begin this cinematic journey. There couldn’t be a better time in our world than this. She’s a heroine with an epic appeal and bringing her to the big screen is a dream come true. I look forward to working with Tasha on this vision, ”said filmmaker Soloway.
The heroine, who was previously played by Brigitte Nielsen in the 1985 adaptation, was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel Comics in 1973.
Currently, “Red Sonja” is published by Dynamite Comics.
