“Renfield”: the comic adaptation of “Dracula” with Nicolas Cage will be influenced by “The Call” and “Evil”

Recently, Nicolas Cage (“Ghost Rider”) played Count Dracula in “Renfield”, a comedy horror film that will star Nicholas Hoult (“X-Men: First Class”) as the legendary vampire’s servant.

During an interview with Variety (via Screen Rant), Cage analyzed film adaptations of Dracula from Bela Lugosi to Frank Langella and Gary Oldman.

However, he guaranteed that this new film will bring something original and bring a performance inspired by the films ‘Evil’, by James Wan, and ‘Ringu’, the Japanese horror that gave birth to the franchise ‘The Call’. .

“What I can bring that is different to this movie is… well, I think my focus is on the movement of the characters… What they did in ‘Maligno’ was fantastic – and even ‘Ringu’ with Sadako Yamamura … I want to see what we can explore in body expressions and in his voice.

Since the film’s announcement, there has been a lot of speculation about what the character’s new approach would be, given Cage’s over-the-top play.

Either way, the star’s enthusiasm for the role is a good sign, and since the feature will be a satire of what has been done before, Cage can fit right in with this kind of interpretation.

Directed by Chris McKay (‘Tomorrow’s War’) and written by Ryan Ridley (‘Rick & Morty’), ‘Renfield’ is the latest shared universe horror project in Universal’s’ The Mummy ‘franchise.’ (2017) and ‘The Invisible Man’ (2020).

The cast will also include Awkwafina (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) and Ben Schwartz (“Sonic: The Movie”).

The plot is based on an idea created by Robert Kirkman (“The Walking Dead”), who will be the producer of the film.

Kirkman has revealed that the film will be fun and “extremely violent”.

“We’re making a really cool movie for Universal [Pictures] which will focus on Renfield. It’ll be a story about him as Dracula’s servant, and we’ll show you how bad the job is. It will be a funny and extremely violent comedy. It will be very bloody.

In the original Bram Stoker novel, Renfield was a crazed crazed patient who was diagnosed with insanity; but, in fact, he was a servant of Dracula. The feature film should take place in the present rather than being constructed like a period film.
