Earlier this year, director Fede Alvarez announced his departure from the sequel to the classic “Labyrinth – The Magic of Time”. Fortunately, it appears that the order for the project has been placed in very capable hands: Scott Derrickson.
According to Deadline, the filmmaker behind the hit “Doctor Strange” has agreed to be responsible for the sequel to the feature film.
Maggie Levin, writer known for “Into the Dark” and “My Valentine”, will be responsible for the new story.
TriStar Pictures will oversee the film, which has yet to receive many details on its production – except that it will be a direct sequel to Jim Henson’s work released in 1996.
The iteration does not yet have a start date set.
It’s worth remembering that Derrickson will be executive producer on ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, a sequel to the 2016 feature film. Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen will star in the production, which is described as a horror film and is set to release on March 25, 2022.
Derrickson is also known for signing the screenplay for ‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose’ and commissioning the remake of ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’, from 2008.
