In an interview with Variety, Melissa Barrera, who will play the new protagonist of the upcoming film in the “Scream” franchise, said that the upcoming feature film will honor Wes Craven’s legacy, while also bringing a new vision to the saga.

“[Os diretores] Matthew [Bettinelli-Olpin] and Tyler [Gillett] brought their own innovative vision to the franchise, but we will honor Wes’s legacy [Craven]. I think fans will be thrilled and I think the new movie will attract a new audience as well. I am really excited about this.

She adds: “I couldn’t believe [quando foi escalada para o filme]. I have always been a huge fan of the franchise. Every time they shouted “Cut! I asked the directors to take a picture of us. Courtney [Cox] has become a great friend of mine. They are all amazing and I loved everything. I am really looking forward to January.

Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, from the acclaimed horror film “Blood Wedding”, will be the directors.

The new film will feature the return of veterans Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Marley Shelton, and feature newcomers Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Kyle Gallner, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mikey Madison and Jack Quaid.

The first film in the franchise opened in 1996 and became an instant revolutionary classic that mixed elements of slasher horror with cinematic metalanguage. Directed by Wes Craven and scripted by Kevin Williamson, the plot focused on a masked serial killer known as Ghostface, who used slogans and haunting knowledge of genre productions to pursue his victims.

Together, the four iterations have grossed over $ 608 million at the global box office.

Paramount Pictures is releasing “Scream” in Brazil on January 13, 2022, the day before the North American premiere.
