Legendary actress Cicely Tyson, known to be one of the pioneers of Afro-descendant portrayal in the entertainment industry, has passed away today (28) at the age of 96.

The information was revealed by his agent, Larry Thompson.

“I took care of Miss. Tyson for over forty years, and each of them has been a privilege and a blessing. Cicely thought of her new memories as a Christmas tree decorated with all the adornments of her personal and professional life. Today she placed the last ornament, a star, at the top of the tree, ”said Thompson.

Born in 1924, Tyson had a majestic career spanning more than seven decades. She became known for playing strong African American women in theaters and on television, earning critical acclaim and worldwide attention for her role as Rebecca Morgan in “ Tears of Hope, ” which earned her award nominations. Oscars and Golden Globe.

In 1974, she starred in the TV movie ‘The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman’, which re-honored her and earned her two Emmy Awards and a BAFTA nomination.

In the final scenes he took part in the acclaimed drama “Histórias Cruzadas”, in the role of Constantine Jefferson. She also brought Ophelia Harkness to life in the forensic drama “ How to Get Away with Murder, ” alongside Viola Davis, which earned her no less than five Emmy nominations. In 2019, she became the first black woman to receive an honorary Oscar for her heritage and longevity in the film scene.
