The biopic ‘The Danish Girl’, a film starring Eddie Redmayne that tells the story of the first trans woman to undergo gender reassignment surgery, is now available on Netflix.

In Copenhagen in 1926, the artists Einar and Gerda Wegener got married. Gerda then decides to dress Einar as a woman to paint him. Einar begins to change his appearance, becomes a woman, and changes her name to Lili Elbe. With the support, albeit troubled, of his wife, a depressed Einar undergoes one of the first sex reassignment surgeries in history in an attempt to completely transform into Lili and regain a taste for life.
