“The Devil Wears Prada” is one of the best-known films of all time and represented a milestone in pop culture when it was released in 2006. The production, directed by David Frankel, featured into the world of crucial details on intricate fashion gears and since then she has conquered legions of amateurs who dive headlong into the secrets of haute couture.

Based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, the story centers on Andy (Anne Hathaway), a newly graduated journalist with no sense of style who lands a job at the prestigious Runway magazine, run by the dreaded Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep ). As he gets involved day after day in designer clothes and bizarre tasks, Andy realizes he has to make a decision: invest in his personal life or take the path of pure success.

With Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci on the cast, the feature filmed to critical acclaim, garnering two Oscar nominations and grossing over $ 325 million at the global box office.

To celebrate its impending fifteenth anniversary, CinePOP has separated a list of ten behind-the-scenes curiosities from the work, which you can check out below:

“WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?”

Despite numerous loans from fashion designers, costume designer Patricia Field spent over $ 1 million making the characters’ costumes, making it the most expensive film in costume history. Field won an Oscar nomination for his work on the feature film.

ENTERING THE CHARACTER

On the first day of filming, Streep told Hathaway, “I think you’re perfect for the role. I am very happy that we are working together. She then stopped and then commented, “This will be the last nice thing I say to you.” And it was.

MIRANDA WINTOUR

Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine and inspiration for Miranda Priestly, was not invited to the premiere. She did, however, take part in a press screening test alongside her daughter, fully dressed in The Devil Wears Prada. Her daughter kept saying, “They got it right! Although she never made a public comment, she would have enjoyed the film, although she was skeptical at first.

EMILIE!

The character of Emily, played by Blunt, would not be English in the script. However, the actress thought it would be more interesting to appear imperious. In several scenes, she runs to the back of the sets, even if the sequences are neither written nor directed. Blunt felt that the character should always be busy, wanting to keep her “alive” in the movie.

A GOOD CAUSE

All of the costumes were auctioned off for breast cancer research. Hathaway bought the gorgeous green woolen coat he wore in the movie, while Streep decided to keep Miranda’s iconic sunglasses (putting them back in the “Money Money Money” scene in “Mamma Mia!” For two years). later).

FIRST CHOICE? I DO NOT THINK SO

During a virtual appearance on the reality show ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’, Hathaway unexpectedly appeared to speak to the contestants and took the opportunity to say that he was not the first choice to play Andy in the film. . “I’ll tell you a secret: I was the ninth choice [para viver Andy] in “The Devil Wears Prada”. But I got it. So hang in there and never give up, ”she said.

GOOD CHOICE

Tucci joined the film’s cast a weekend before its first scene, after 150 other actors were considered to play Miranda’s astute and loyal art director Nigel. Presenter Graham Norton had been considered for the role, but came in second, while actors Javier Cámara and Thomas Lennon had to turn down the character due to scheduling conflicts.

THE DEVIL

Prior to Streep’s signing, many actresses were considered for the role of Miranda Priestly, including Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Helen Mirren, Michelle Pfeiffer, Julia Roberts and Hilary Swank. In the end, Streep did a great job and earned another Oscar nomination for Best Actress.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Blunt commented that one of Emily’s most iconic phrases had been “stolen” from something her mother used to scream at her when she was a child. The sentence read: “I hear ‘this’ (speaking) and I want to hear ‘this’ (silence)” and was accompanied by mimes and hand gestures.

DELETED SCENE

In one of the shocking deleted scenes, Miranda, Andy, and Emily attend the benefit ball. When Miranda meets her husband, Andy ends up helping her by striking up a conversation with Richard Sachs (David Marshall Grant), one of Runway’s investors, and occupying him. Miranda then meets Andy’s eyes and says a subtle “thank you”. The scene was eventually cut so as not to break Miranda’s character construction.
