‘The Exorcist’: ‘Halloween’ director in talks for direct sequel

Earlier this year, rumors claimed that a reboot of “ The Exorcist ” was in development, but details were not disclosed.

The Observer has now revealed that David Gordon Green (“Halloween”) is in talks to direct the new film, which will actually be a sequel produced by Blumhouse Productions and Morgan Creek.

The website says the next project will follow similar steps to “Halloween,” with the goal of relaunching the franchise and incorporating elements of the source material without being a direct reboot.

The film’s premiere is scheduled for 2021.

The plot will focus on Regan McNeil’s (Linda Blair) granddaughter and her struggle to get rid of the demon Pazuzu, which has tormented the family since being kicked out of Regan’s body by Father Damien Karras (Jason Miller ).

Therefore, the new movie must skip “The Exorcist II: The Heretic” (1977) and “The Exorcist III” (1990) to tell a story directly related to the original.

Recently, director William Friedkin, who directed the 1973 classic “The Exorcist,” clarified recent rumors and was quite adamant in stating that he was not involved in the new movie.

“There is a rumor on IMDB that I am involved in the new version of ‘The Exorcist’. This is not a rumor, it is a blatant lie. There is not enough money or motivation to get involved in this project, ”said the filmmaker.

From the exorcist. This is not a rumor, it is an outright lie.
There is not enough money or motivation in the world
To make me do this.

As the project is still in its early stages, updates are expected to be released in the coming months.

Morgan Creek will be responsible for the new version. The studio is responsible for the prequel to the classic, titled “ Domain: Prequela of the Exorcist, ” which launched in 2015.

They also performed “A Reconquista” and “Ace Ventura”.

Directed by William Friedkin and starring Linda Blair, the first feature film follows a twelve-year-old girl who behaves in completely frightening ways. In this way, her mother seeks help from a priest, who is also a psychiatrist, and he comes to the conclusion that the girl is possessed by the demon. He then calls on a second priest, a specialist in exorcism, to try to free the young girl from this terrible possession.

The original franchise yielded four films, in addition to an “alternative” prequel, titled “Domain”. Recently, FOX launched a series that took place in the same universe as the original film, which ran for 2 seasons.
