‘The Fantastic Chocolate Factory’: Tim Burton Wanted The Rock As Willy Wonka In The 2005 Remake

On his Instagram profile, Dwayne Johnson surprised fans by revealing that he almost played Willy Wonka in the remake of “ The Fantastic Chocolate Factory ”, directed by Tim Burton in 2005.

In the post, the star showed a scene from the film and wrote:

“’Then a good deed shines in a wicked world.’ This morning, I introduced my babies to one of my all-time favorite movies… “The Fantastic Chocolate Factory”. They loved it and now they expect me to deliver them a room full of chocolate and candy. This will be my next project. Here’s an interesting story: In the early 2000s, iconic director Tim Burton was considering playing Willy Wonka in the remake.

He continued:

“I thought, ‘Wow, this is my chance.’ But I was still starting my career in Hollywood and I didn’t have an outstanding box office performance and I didn’t have enough experience. So the role went to Johnny Depp, who was the biggest star in the world at the time. The rest is history and I continued on my way. […] I always celebrate dreams that didn’t come true because they’re the best things that never happened.
