“The Iron Mask,” a fantasy comedy starring Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger, appears to have made the year’s worst list for international critics.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the feature has only gotten 21% approval, with a score of 3.40 / 10 based on 28 reviews so far. By general consensus, the film “unites Chan and Schwarzenegger for a bizarre adventure that aims for a fantastic time with surprisingly hilarious results.”
“It didn’t make a whole lot of sense, despite occasional fun moments” – Kermode & Mayo’s Film Review.
“Chan and Schwarzenegger are expected to have been well rewarded for lending their name to this disaster” – CBR.
“A huge and extravagant mess” – THN.
“It’s the kind of movie that turns ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ into a sleek and cohesive franchise” – The Spectator.
“A complicated sequence that has a lot of violence” – Common Sense Media.
After ‘Forbidden Empire’ (2014), Chan saw a martial arts master trying to escape from a British fortress controlled by wicked and impatient military man James Hook (Schwarzenegger).
However, the plot stars Jason Flemyng, who returns as traveler Jonathan Green on a trip from Russia to China in the face of dragons, pirates, dark magic, and fantastic creatures.
Once again, the hero prepares for a long journey full of incredible adventures that will eventually lead him to China. The cartographer will have to face many breathtaking discoveries, encounter bizarre creatures, meet Chinese princesses, and face deadly martial arts masters and the dragon king.
Directed by Oleg Stepchenko, the film also features Charles Dance, Rutger Hauer, Anna Yao and Luu Brothers.
As of now, there is still no preview of the debut in Brazil.
