In an interview with Script Apart, Neil Druckmann, creator, writer and director of the acclaimed game “ The Last of Us, ” revealed the reason for the cancellation of the theatrical adaptation, which would be produced by Sam Raimi.

“When I was working on the film version, a lot of the markups were like, ‘How do we make the film great? How can we do something bigger? And it didn’t work for the adaptation. I think that’s the main reason the film didn’t leave the paper.

He continues, “Our approach to ‘The Last of Us’ was to’ make an independent film, let’s shoot it that way – something small and intimate. And with the series, we can rely on it even more because we don’t need to have as many action sequences as in the game. ”

Remember, HBO is developing a series based on the game.

Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal will be the protagonists Ellie and Joel, respectively. Gabriel Luna will be Tommy, Joel’s little brother.

Kantemir Balagov will be responsible for directing the pilot episode.

Production recordings begin July 5 in Alberta, Canada, and are scheduled to end June 8, 2022.

Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl”) will act as producer and screenwriter.

In an interview with the BBC, Mazin revealed that the plot will expand the universe of games, making it clear that the series will not change the main elements of the games, just bring more information.

“If you’ve played ‘The Last of Us’ before, our intention is for you to watch the program and say ‘it didn’t violate anything that I liked about the game’. We won’t change anything, either with respect to the plot or the characters, but we will bring a lot more information about this universe. Believe me, the story is very large and leaves room for many new ideas, some really amazing ideas.

The production is the result of a partnership between Naughty Dog, HBO, Sony Pictures Televison and PlayStation Productions, which will make its debut in creating television series.
