“The Last of Us”: The Actress of “The Handmaid’s Tale” Is Chosen To Play The Original Character Of The HBO Series

Today (02), actress Natasha Mumba (‘The Handmaid’s Tale’) was cast in the ambitious ‘The Last of Us’ series, an adaptation of the eponymous games overseen by HBO.

Mumba will bring to life a character created especially for the series, called Kim Tembo. However, details about Kim have not been revealed.

The good news was confirmed by the actress herself on her Instagram.

Mumba joins Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie), previously announced. The rest of the cast include Anna Torv, Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Jeffrey Pierce, Con O’Neill and Murray Bartlett.

The series stars Peter Hoar (“Daredevil”), Kantemir Balagov (“A Great Woman”), Ali Abbasi (“Sheiley”), Jasmila Zbanic (“Quo Vadis, Aida”), Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl”) and Neil Druckmann (creator of the game) as directors. Balagov orders the first two chapters.

The plot takes place twenty years after the destruction of modern civilization. Joel, a surly survivor, is hired to get 14-year-old Ellie out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What started out as a small job quickly turns into a brutal and painful journey as the two have to cross the United States and depend on each other for survival.

The series was created by Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl”), who is also a screenwriter and executive producer of the adaptation alongside Neil Druckmann.

For now, the release of “The Last of Us” is not yet scheduled.
