The Lord of the Rings trilogy brings together some of the most remarkable moments in movie history, and every fan has their favorite scene … Even director Peter Jackson.
During an interview with Stephen Colbert for The Late Show, the filmmaker broached the subject and revealed that his favorite scene was the introduction of Gollum (Andy Serkis) in “The Two Towers”.
More interestingly, he explained that the scene was performed by his wife, Fran Walsh, the screenwriter of the trilogy.
“We were filming ‘The Two Towers’ and it was time to introduce Gollum. The most important thing about him is that the fans already know that Sméagol is Gollum, he is like a split personality. But we still didn’t have a scene where it was totally clear.
He went on to say that Fran had the perfect idea of how to show the audience the creature’s ambiguity:
“We knew we needed it, but we didn’t have time to shoot. Then Fran wrote a scene in which Sam (Sean Astin) and Frodo (Elijah Wood) are sleeping, while Gollum comes to argue with himself. I was so busy recording other scenes that I suggested to Fran: “What do you think about making this scene? You wrote it, you should film it. She eventually accepted and the scene became very famous. I can say this is my favorite scene.
And for you, what is the most memorable scene of the whole trilogy?
Recalling that the expectations for the Amazon TV series are quite high precisely because of the acclaimed public and critical success that Jackson’s films have achieved.
And given actress Morfydd Clark’s latest speech, the production needs to repeat the same level of mastery as the film version, when it comes to technical quality.
During an interview with NME, she revealed that the production scale of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ is surprising:
“I feel like I’ve had the dose of doing great things, being part of ‘Lord of the Rings’. The number of people working on this series is endlessly surprising. A guy’s job is just to analyze how dust reacts to footsteps and breathing! That sort of thing would never have crossed my mind. I think beyond the Marvel stuff. I have never seen such a grandiose and epic production ”.
The cast of the series includes Maxim Baldry (‘Doctor Who’, ‘A Second Chance to Love’), Robert Aramayo as protagonist, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Daniel Weyman and newcomer Tyroe Muhafidin.
The plot of the series will take place before the events presented in the first book written by JRR Tolkien.
The first two episodes will be directed by Juan Antonio Bayona (“Jurassic World: Realm Threatened”), who will also be the executive producer alongside Belén Atienza.
