‘The Scorpion King’: Dwayne Johnson Produces Franchise Reboot For Universal Pictures!

According to Collider, iconic Dwayne Johnson is developing a reboot of the popular “ The Scorpion King ” franchise for Universal Pictures.

Johnson enters as a producer alongside Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.

Jonathan Herman (“Straight Outta Compton”) signs the screenplay, the plot of which will take place today. Jay Polidoro and Tony Ducret will also oversee the project.

The original film, which served as a spin-off for the “The Mummy” franchise, was one of Johnson’s first roles on the big screen. Begun in 2002, the story takes place in the city of Gomorrah, where Memnon stands as an evil ruler determined to slaughter anyone who opposes him. The few surviving tribes, who have never been allied, are forced to unite so as not to disappear. Knowing that their enemies believe in and depend on a wizard’s visions, they hire Mathayus, an efficient mercenary, to eliminate him. After infiltrating the enemy camp, Mathayus discovers that the wizard is in fact a beautiful woman.

Despite mixed reviews for the first film and the lukewarm box-office collection (nearly $ 180 million), Universal pursued the franchise and produced four sequels, the most recent of which was “ The Scorpion King 5: The Book of Souls ” in 2018.
