“The Suicide Squad”: James Gunn explains why he didn’t want to use the Joker in the movie

Despite criticism of Jared Leto’s Joker in “Suicide Squad,” fans of the star would still love to see him reprise his role in the team’s new film.

However, audiences should remember that he is not a member of Task Force X and was only in the previous film due to his relationship with Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie).

As their relationship came to an end in ‘Birds of Prey’, ‘The Suicide Squad’ director James Gunn said it wouldn’t make sense to bring him into the new adaptation.

While promoting the film, Gunn sat down with the New York Times and clarified his point:

“I don’t know why the Joker would be in ‘The Suicide Squad’. It wouldn’t be helpful to unfold the narrative as this is a war movie and the Joker is not a soldier. I wanted to create this who I consider to be the real Suicide Squad. For me, saving elements of David’s film [Ayer] it would only spoil things. I wanted this film to be something independent.

He went on to say that even Haley Quinn didn’t have to be in the movie:

“When Warner Bros. invited me, they told me I could rearrange the entire villain team, even Harley Quinn was not a studio requirement. I put together a team with the characters that I have. have always wanted to see together and with those I loved the most in the previous film.
