‘The Supreme Voice of the Blues’ wins two BAFTA 2021 awards

The winners of the 74th edition of the BAFTAs were announced on April 10 and 11 and “The Supreme Voice of the Blues” was not excluded from the list of winners.

Although one of awards season’s favorites Chadwick Boseman did not win the Best Actor award, the feature was remembered for best costume (Ann Roth) and best makeup and hair ( Matiki Anoff, Larry M. Cherry, Sergio Lopez-Rivera and Mia Neal).

Recalling that the film is now available on Netflix.

Directed by George C. Wolfe, “ The Supreme Voice of the Blues ” (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play written by August Wilson in 1982.

Chicago, 1927. During a recording session, tensions arise between Ma Rainey (Viola Davis), her ambitious trumpeter (Chadwick Boseman) and white businessmen determined to control the legendary Mother of the Blues. Based on the play by Pulitzer Prize-winning August Wilson.

Also on the bill are Glynn Turman, Taylour Paige, Dusan Brown, Colman Domingo and Michael Potts.
