According to Deadline, Edgar Wright (“In Rhythm of Escape”) has been hired to direct the new adaptation of “The Running Man,” which is in development by Paramount Pictures.

The plot is based on the book The Competitor, written by Stephen King. The work was originally published in 1982 under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.

Michael Bacall will be responsible for the script for the new adaptation.

The original story follows Ben Richards as he participates in “The Competitor,” a game show in which participants, who can go anywhere in the world, are chased by “hunters” employed to kill them.

It should be remembered that the work was already adapted in 1987, in a feature film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Although it wasn’t very successful when it was released, grossing just over $ 38 million at the global box office, the film has become a cult following and has gained a legion of fans over the years. .
