According to TVLine, Renée Zellweger will star in the thriller miniseries “The Thing About Pam,” which is currently in development by NBC.

This will mark the actress’ first role on American open television.

Based on a true story, the plot will focus on the real murder of Betsy Faria, for which her husband, Russ, was convicted despite insisting he was not the author of the crime. Russ’s conviction was later overturned, but Betsy’s death sparked a chain reaction that ended up exposing an evil ploy involving Pam Hupp (to be played by Zellweger).

Six episodes have been ordered for the project.

“The twists and turns of these stories are stranger than fiction,” said Susan Rovner, president of entertainment at NBCUniversal, in a statement. “In the hands of this talented team, this series will bring a whole new perspective to a story that has already captivated millions of viewers.”

In addition to acting, Zellweger will also be the executive producer of the series.

Jessika Borsiczky (“UnREAL” and “House of Lies”) will be the showrunner.
