According to Variety, the classic novel “The Three Musketeers”, by Alexandre Dumas, will win two new film adaptations with a cutting edge cast.
The information indicates that Martin Bourboulon (“Eiffel”) will be responsible for “Les Trois Mousquetaires – D’Artagnan” and “Les Trois Mousquetaires – Milady”. The works will feature François Civil as d’Artagnan and Eva Green as Milady.
The rest of the team includes Vincent Cassel as Athos, Pio Marmaï as Porthos, Romais Duris as Aramis, Vicky Krieps as Queen Anne of Austria, Louis Garrel as King Louis XIII, Lyna Khoudri as Constance Bonacieux and Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Duke Buckingham.
Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière signed the screenplay for the two feature films, with a production by Dimitri Rassam.
The film budget is around $ 73 million and will be shot at the same time at the end of August, in France. The additional cast will be revealed in the following weeks.
The new adaptation will also bring a new character, Hannibal, based on the true story of Louis Anniaba, the first black musketeer in French history.
The historical novel was launched in 1844, becoming an immediate success and being published in multiple languages. Since then, “The Three Musketeers” has appeared on the big screen several times, the most famous of which came out in 1948 (with Gene Kelly) and 2011 (with Logan Lerman and Milla Jovovich).
