Understand why Marvel decided to KILL Iron Man

During an interview with Vanity Fair, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus were asked why they decided to kill Tony Stark at the end of the adaptation.

In response, Markus said Stark’s death symbolized not only the final act of “ Ultimatum, ” but the completion of his entire MCU career.

“His death legitimized it all, you know? If the character remained alive, people would lose interest in everything that happened before his death, it would lose its meaning… The story had a beginning, a middle and an end, that’s what it is about .

The screenwriter took the opportunity to clarify that Stark’s selfless decision was a reflection of his coexistence with Captain America, and that despite the differences, they were very similar.

“Throughout the movies, we noticed Tony and the Captain walk through their arcades. Steve always sacrificed himself for others, but eventually he became more individualistic. In “ Civil War ” he made decisions based on personal feelings, even though he knew he would dismantle the “ Avengers ”. Tony went the other way, he was selfish and brash, but we realized he was taking the full burden of being a hero by sacrificing himself for the universe.
