According to Variety, Warner Bros. plans to launch the long-awaited sequel “Wonder Woman 1984” in theaters as scheduled on December 25, but on a limited circuit.
The studio’s intention is reportedly to make a confined debut in US theaters to launch the feature on HBO Max to stream in January.
Another option, which would also be heavily considered, would be to postpone the film’s release until the very busy North American summer of 2021 (around June).
Ann Sarnoff, chief executive officer of WarnerMedia, spoke of a possible further delay after “Tenet” failed to raise expectations in the United States and the rest of the world.
“We depend on how theaters in the United States will be, whether they will be open or if cases of the disease continue to increase. We still have a bit of time to decide, ”he said.
It should be remembered that theaters in the major capitals New York and Los Angeles are closed due to COVID-19.
In recent weeks, movie theater owners have pleaded with U.S. officials to allow them to resume operations, as restaurants, gyms and other establishments have begun to welcome customers.
In Brazil, “Wonder Woman 1984” remains scheduled for December 24.
In an interview with Variety, director Patty Jenkins previously stated that when it comes to the release of “Wonder Woman 1984”, she doesn’t think anything can be trusted very much at the moment.
“I don’t think anyone can be confident now. We just don’t know which COVID-19 course will take ”.
Either way, Jenkins has also said he’s hopeful the long-awaited feature arrives at Christmas, adding that “it seems possible to me.”
